Third Stoke Newington Fruit Tree Mapping Day this Saturday!

by Jamie on August 2, 2010

** Update: we’ll be meeting at the Jolly Butchers at 12. Sorry for the confusion! **

They’re coming thick and fast but there’s lots of work to do to get the word out and find those trees. Our third mapping day will be happening on Saturday 7th August and once again we will meet at The Birdcage on Stamford Hill at 11am The Jolly Butchers on the High Street at 12.

We’ll be splitting into pairs with some people continuing to hit the side streets of Stoke Newington to track down the trees and others hitting the main streets in search of local businesses who are interested in acting as a fruit distribution point, handing out free fruit to their customers and passersby.

This second part to the project is very important because we’ll need to be able to shift potentially large quantities of fruit quickly and efficiently before it spoils.

Last mapping day we quickly found five businesses who were enthusiastic to help us out which really encouraged us (if you know of anyone who might be interested then please let us know in the comments below). We’ll also be reaching out to local community and faith groups to see if they can help share the fruit out with their members.

So if you’re free this coming Saturday, come along and lend a hand – we need all the help we can get! Bring a bike if you have one as it makes hunting for fruit trees much easier.

If you’re busy that day then there will be other opportunities to get involved (see our events page) and you can always help by spreading the word about the project.

Hope to see you this Saturday!
